Chronic sinusitis: It is defined as chronic sinusitis when the symptoms last 8 weeks or more. Recurrent sinusitis: Various attacks in one year
Home remedies:
Menthol vapor
In a pot with about five cups of very hot water (steam coming out) put two or three drops of eucalyptus oil. Covering yourself with a towel so that the steam does not go away, bring your face closer to the pot and take a deep breath on the steam, taking care not to burn yourself. It can be repeated two to four times a day.
Precautions: People with heart disease, nervous system disorders and pregnant women should not use eucalyptus oil. It is not recommended to use this remedy in babies, children and the elderly. Do not use more than the recommended amount of eucalyptus oil. You should never ingest the eucalyptus oil, nor place it directly on the skin.
Saline solution
In pharmacies they sell saline solutions to wash mucus. But we can make our own solution to irrigate the nose and relieve sinusitis. Mix 1/3 teaspoon of salt with a pinch of baking soda in a cup of warm water.
Fill a dropper with the solution. With your head back, cover one nostril and put the solution in the other. Sound your nose gently and repeat the same procedure with the other. This nose wash cleans the nasal passages and reduces inflammation.
Infusion of ginger, eucalyptus, lemon and honey
Another home remedy against sinusitis consists of an infusion based on root zest of ginger, eucalyptus leaves, lemon juice and honey. You must boil the ginger zest and the eucalyptus leaves in a liter of water for about 15 minutes; then, you should strain it and add the lemon juice and a few spoonfuls of honey. If you take it daily, you will notice a great improvement.
Decongestant foods
A healthy and balanced diet is always necessary to improve our health. During sinusitis infection the ideal is to eat in moderation, with an emphasis on whole grains, beans, lentils, lightly cooked vegetables and soups. Avoid the mucus that forms foods such as, flour products, eggs, chocolate, fried and processed foods, sugar and dairy products. Drink lots of water.
There are some foods that should be taken in case of sinusitis and that will help to counteract their symptoms such as garlic and onions which have decongestant effects. It is also recommended to consume carrot, because it contains carotenes that are responsible for strengthening the mucous membranes and increasing the defenses. Remember that each remedy can work differently in each individual, that's why we recommend you find the best remedy you can provide .
